Today's Brunch:

Sliced avocado, with lime juice and garlic powder
Salmon fillets, pan fried in butter
Dill sauce (lovely and dead easy: sour cream, tube dill, Dijon mustard)
2 eggs, shirred with cream, basil, and Parmesan
fried tomato
Blueberries w/ ricotta

Must remember to do the dill sauce again with salmon. Hal doesn't appreciate it because he doesn't want anything getting in the way of the salmon, but I was quite pleased.

Also v. happy with the fresh frozen wild pink salmon fillets from Groutlet.

Tinka sat outside on the kitchen porch and complained the entire time that she was starving to death for salmon and eggs. Would have gone over better had I not fed her tuna, and cream(not all at once), just earlier myself.

Yup, most cats (and many dogs) are marvelous at the "I'm starving to death" thing.

And (BTW) growing dill is dead-easy. Too much so, even, if you let it go to seed and aren't scrupulous about collecting all of that.

I think I may have had a bad packet of dill seeds. I planted a bunch and nothing came up at all. I was talking to another local gardener, and he suggests I may get them next year -- he had that experience, that for some reason the first crop took ridiculously long to germinate. I live in hope. I really like dill.

But, it also has to be said, that absent the fresh stuff, the Gourmet Garden (tm) herbs in plastic squeeze tubes make a really good substitute. They're especially nice for soups and sauces and such, and a real life saver when the grocery store parsley/cilantro/dill/whatever has gone off since last you looked at it.

Does it last? I have a packet of dill in my fridge and have used some, but there's a good chance most of it will die.

In my experience, yes, the Gourmet Garden tubes last quite well. Not infinitely, but for months, certainly.
