Today is the last day to vote in the current Trans-Atlantic Fan Fund (TAFF) race. This journal proudly supports Curt Phillips for TAFF (...and as one of his nominators, so do I). If you'd like to know more about Curt and his fanwriting, there's a lovely campaign zine of his over at efanzines. If you are eligible to vote, and have not done it yet, please do so! If you've already voted, you can vote again! (Only the last ballot counts, but hey, TAFF can always use more money, so multiple votes with multiple donations are g-o-o-o-o-d.) You can find the ballot text with an explanation of the fund, the names and platforms of the candidates, and links to electronic ballot donation payment options here, that last of which is particularly important because the ballot and payment must reach one of the administrators by 11:59 PDT tonight, so it is indeed too late to vote by snail mail. But not too late to vote -- so do it now, act without thinking, support TAFF and Vote for Curt!

Corflu Beer Barman Byers

A bit of time has passed since the first weekend in May but things have been Somewhat Hectic in my little corner of the universe, so that between the trans-hebephrenic crescendo of Spring Quarter insanity at work, a sudden and unwelcome flurry of legal filings surrounding the (let us hope) final dispensation of my parents' estate, still getting all the list mail from the upcoming Lone Star Con despite the increasing unlikelihood of my attending, and somewhat foolishly volunteering to help with administering the PayPal voting for the DUFF race, I have not posted my pictures from Corflu or indeed said boo about it. Well, boo. Actually, yay. I had a swell time. I took no notes, but here's a picture of Randy Byers tending the beer bar on Saturday (?) night for you.

Found in a collection of photos of dogs, hanging out car windows. To this one I could only say, "Holy Cow! It's Jay Lake reincarnated as a dog!"

DOGGLES FOR THE WIN

Well then. I've known for a while that I would be going to Worldcon this year, because I'm working it, but now I've actually got my rooming situation squared away and my air ticket bought, as well as a membership transfer in process, so I guess it's real real. Yay,I'm going to Worldcon, y'all! Now the question is, can I cobble together a Steampunk Regency outfit in just over 30 days on no budget...? Ho ho.

Just because you enjoy sex, doesn't mean you aren't a whore. It just means you're a good whore.

Hey, if you're one of those Fanzine Fan people and you're planning to attend Corflu Zed (13-15 March, 2009) but haven't yet booked your Hotel Deca room: get off your butt and do it now! The committee needs to decide by this Friday (December 12) whether or not to reduce our room block committment so it would be very helpful if we could get our room count firmed up.

To book a room, you can call the reservations direct line (206)658-2391, Monday - Friday, 9-5 Pacific Standard Time, or follow the directions below to use the hotel website: Beneath the Cut )

Via [livejournal.com profile] kiplet I find that The Portland Zine Symposium is upcoming. Themes for the year include Back to DIY, Back to Community, and Back to Roots. Wonder how many mimeographed fanzine producers will be there?

The center, it cannot hold...

So, I started out editing the Potlatch 17 web pages in MS Notepad. This procedure is Not To Be Recommended.

After a bit, Hal found a copy of EditPlus he'd registered yonks ago, and lo, their website still honored the registration, and thus I now have the latest version of EditPlus to use instead. OMG. OMG. OMFHJG. It uses COLORS. Like, so you can easily spot the difference between the tags and the operators and the comments and the content. It's like a whole new world. It's like, I may not go blind after all.

Also, David tells me I no longer have to obfuscate e-mail addresses by hand. That's a happy thing, 'cause reading the ISO codes was makin' the baby Jesus cry, and I wasn't too happy about it my own self.

When do I get to FTP webmastery straight to wetware?

P.S. - Why yes, I am procrastinating. What's it to ya?
