Weird Thought: Chitty-Chitty Bang-Bang: The original Steampunk film?

Happy Thought: Don't need to buy a new transit pass. It turns out that where my ID-and-transit-pass card went astray was at the little café-deli where I sometimes buy sandwiches, and they found it and passed it on to a coworker who brought it back to me. Yay. The ID replacement is free, but the bus pass costs a snootful.

Smug Thought: ASUS should pay me a sales commission for taking my eee places. Virtually every time I take it out I get gently mobbed by nearby train passengers. People want to know what it is, what it does, how much does it weigh, and Where Can I Get One?? I especially get asked by women, but I think this is because mine is pink. Still no Hello, Kitty stickers, tho.

Medical Observation: Finally getting my C-2 vertebra back in place is an incredible head rush. Very floaty and relaxed, after that. Alas, I think I've already knocked it back out a bit. Lucky I'm back to the Chiro on Tuesday. And the combined insurance covers 20 visits per year. Yay, double insurance.

Book Thought: After finishing Ha'penny (not as much of a breathless headlong rush as Farthing but still, very engaging book with many of the same virtues of complexity, sophistication, and note-perfect tone as the first one without me getting kicked out of the narrative by Unfortunate Clues), I am in the mood for something Just Like Bad Monkeys, without being Bad Monkeys, since I've already read that (thanks, Luke!). Anybody have something really wonderful in mind that I should read next?

Have you read Butcher Bird by Richard Kadrey? A fun edgy ride. Mike & I both loved it.

I have not read Butcher Bird, but it sounds like a lot of fun. I'll see if I can't get King County Libraries to turn loose a copy. Thanks!

I just inhaled Paul Melko's Singularity's Ring. It was in the freebie bags at the Nebs and I polished it off while we were still in Texas. The viewpoint character is a five-person cluster. One scene involves him, his foster mother, and a visiting army colonel; there are either 3 people in the room, or 11, depending on how you want to count.

Sounds like fun, and weird, in a good way. I'll add it to my list. Thanks!

I just finished Lois Lowry's The Willoughbys, which is quick and entertaining. Not quite like Bad Monkeys in tone, but it certainly nails all the old-fashioned children's tales about orphaned children and the like. It was pretty fun.

Have you read Jason Shiga's Bookhunter? If not, you must. Go get your hands on a copy NOW. Okay, you can go to sleep first, but without endangering your self or others (or your job), you Need to Read.

I gave a copy of Bookhunter to our bookgroup fan/librarian leader for our seventh year anniversary, and I read it carefully first myself. I kept laughing. Oh, and ML had the right place to get the book...

It's a brilliant book, IMO, and can't be pushed too much or too often. So many people we know are among the ideal audience!

I didn't review it because I know some members of the bookgroup read my LJ off and on and I didn't want to ruin the surprise. But it's a really fabulous book.

Okay, The Willoughbys and Bookhunter will be bunged onto the list. Maybe the comix shop up on 45th has Bookhunter, come to think of it. It seems like a very silly sort of book, but in a good way.
