Seems like a lot of trips upcoming, alluva sudden. This weekend, Orycon. I love Portland in November, and I am determined to get some Peruvian food, plus Alotto Gelatto. Next weekend, Vancouver. Bumming around in BC with the Kares for a coupla days, with the aquarium, museums, restaurants and walks in Stanley park and that. And it looks like we've decided to drive down to Mariposa for the Christmas Fillial Obligation Visit, rather than fly. Lets us take the coast road back up through Northern California and Oregon, which Hal has never done, and I haven't done in yonks. Also lets us bring along The St. Francis Terror, as she stresses out when we kennel her. Now, to figure out the cat sitting.

We'll also be in Vancouver for Thanksgiving weekend, for the annual square dance there.

Huh, well, that's cool. Perhaps, if we are neither too busy nor too sick of each other by then, we can collide for a meal or summat.

Is Allotto Gelatto the name of a Gelatto place, or a joke about how much you're going to eat?

Fremont has Postmark Gelatto, where you can buy postcards and stamps as well as gelatto. I think the gelatto is good, too.

Have fun on these travels.

Alotto Gelato is the actual name of the place. Particularly fine stuff, and an amazing range of flavors. Still, I should probably check out Postmark, since it's a much shorter drive.

I'd sit your cats if I were local. Alas, remote-control tech isn't quite up to snuff yet.

Thanks for the thought. Obviously, moving to Madison to get a cat sitter won't work either -- it would make it impractical to drive to California for Christmas, for one thing.

I didn't know about Alotto Gelato - Thanks for the tip.

When you visit Vancouver I hope you get a chance to check out La Casa Gelato on Venables. seattlesparks told us about it just before we spent last Thanksgiving up in BC. It's an awesome place and I'd love to find out what you think of it. This month's special is chestnut with chocolate shavings.

I'll try to keep an eye out for it. Although with this weather, who knows how much I'll be in the mood for gelato. We didn't, as it turned out, ever get to Alotto Gelato while in Portland, though we had several very fine meals anyway.

Ahhhh, Vancouver, land of silk brocades priced in Canadian dollars and not very many of those dollars at that...
