I wasn't suggesting your male friends had to be gay to hold hands with them. Quite the opposite, really.
And I don't think passing memes around amongst a bunch of people who already agree with each other *does* lift the veil, and because of the nature of LJ most people don't have a big enough microphone here to reach significantly beyond that closed circle.
So, yea, plus ten for laudable sentiment, zero for effectiveness, minus ten for coercive approach.
