2006 TAFF Trip Planning

Yo, good, plain people of the Fan Fund loving internets assembled, I give you greetings. As you may have heard by now Bridget "Bug" Bradshaw won the 2006 race (Yay Bug!), and will be in the US for eight weeks starting this July. She's planning her itinterary via a purpose-built LiveJournal, so if you're interested in seeing her, and/or hosting her while she is in town please go check that link.

Particularly if you're in the Bay Area, it looks like Bug currently isn't planning on hitting SF and that might just be from lack of knowning anyone to hit up, so get on it, people. Likewise, Seattle folk -- if someone more central than Hal & I has kip space in early August or so, drop her a line.
For that matter, hosting in New York is probably still being sought.

I have been brushing up my geography this week - I now have a much better idea of relative distances and travel links. "California," - I thought - "that's quite big. Probably 300 miles top to bottom!" (Ahem)

Yeah, the first time I traveled to the West coast, I thought I could just bop between Seattle and San Francisco in half a day by car. I blame the standard road atlas (maps for drivers), which assign one or two pages per state, regardless of actual size. Apparently Rhode Island is NOT half the size of California. Who knew?!

The metric I usually use (explaining it the other way, admittedly): California is about the size of Sweden. Four times the population of Sweden lives in Los Angeles alone.
