I mentioned to my friend Liz, who does art quilts, that I had found a vendor on eBay who sold Folkwear patterns for less than buying direct from Folkwear and Liz, that perpetual font of Stuff I Need to Know About, shot back, "Denver Fabrics sells them for thirteen dollars apiece."

Which is not quite true, but 20% off MSRP is nothing to sneeze at, either. And besides, more to the point, Denver Fabrics has STUFF. Fabulous stuff. I don't know why I might need a small hide of garment-weight, sueded, fuschia leather, but if I do, I know where to get it at an amazingly good price. (Under $10. For the hide.) And maybe you have to be into beading to get excited by the prospect of an assortment of ultrasuede scraps for just under $2, but I'm pretty excited. And then there's that amazing silk taffeta in a color I can't even name (in Guy Colors, it's pink, but in Girl Colors it appears to be a pinkish, maybe mauvish, magenta-to-blue changeable. Arguably this tells you what you need to know about the various virtues of Guy Colors versus Girl Colors: concision versus precision). And while I have no immediate use for a pink brontosaurus apatosaurus iron-on patch, it's charming to note that the sewing world has also taken a stance on paleontological nomenclature, if not representational accuracy. So those of you with a tropism for fabrics, you have been warned. Click links at your own risk.

EDIT: OMG! They have steel boning! Sqeeeeeeee!

My uncle recently expanded his color repertoire by half again. He used to have twelve colors (red, orange, etc., and light red, light orange, etc.). Now he has eighteen: he has added "country" as a modifying adjective. Not always accurately.

My mom, on the other hand, is quite insistent that her favorite sweater is aubergine, not plum.

Well, aubergine and plum are different colors. Geez.

I know they are, but the manufacturer is confused and believes the sweater to be plum.

Ah, but how do we know they weren't pink?

I set myself up for that, didn't I? Just for clarity's sake, I wasn't referring to the color, Mr. Antic Disposition.

You mean the head shape, then? Or just the overall cute'n'pudginess?

Head shape and flexible tail. Part of the bronto- to apatosaur redesign theoretical turn was, afaik, updating the tail to the more rigid, elevated, balance-counterweight conceptualization, rather than the draggy, snaky kind of the Old Skool dinos.

We have always been at war with Apatosaurus.
