Borrowing a page from les [livejournal.com profile] minnehahas:

Why are you on my "Friends" list? Because I met you in Real Life, or rasseff, or beyond the second star on the left. Because you're on the "Friends" list of someone already on mine, or probably several, and I'm making little jumps out along the net of acquaintance. Because you had "nominal aphasia" on your list of interests. Mostly, tho, because you're interesting and swell and I'd like to get to know you better.

Excellent summation, counselor. May I borrow this brief?

[livejournal.com profile] samildanach was perusing his userinfo page as one is sometimes wont to do and exclaimed, "Someone I don't know - or don't think I know - has friended me. . . maybe I met them at Foolscap?", and brought up the userinfo of said entity in turn to try to puzzle the connection out. Reading over his shoulder, my interest was particularly snared by the bolded portions of the below quote:

"We hold these truths to be self-evident: Romanesque is objectively better than Modern architecture; Wittgenstein is a bitch to read, but pays off with fractal fecundity; it is better to be playful than cool; what will finally imanetize the eschaton is the titanic struggle between adherents of New York- versus Chicago-style pizza; American fans have dog-nature while British fans have cat-nature; either God is ineffable, or the Fundamentalists have direct access to His wishes, but not both; change is inevitable, especially under sofa cushions; chocolate is so a food group."

I don't know if my curiosity was more piqued by the sympathetic viewpoint, the delirious juxtaposition of the disparate ideas, or simply the semi-colons. I have been known to harbor a great weakness for that particular flavor of punctuation myself.

I have intriguing semicolons! :) Seriously, thanks for saying. I sometimes wonder if anyone actually reads the user info page. So now I know, at least you guys have...

Because I'm too interesting to not be on your friends list.

Also, too sexy for your shirt. And, let's not forget humble.

I note though that you don't disagree with me.

No one with your trump in the the staple wars could be regarded as less than too interesting, no.

Thanks. But the empirical in me wants to know: Is it working? (Are you getting to know us better?)

Varies. It partly depends on the individual participants, and how much they put into their own journals and their commenting frequency. In some cases, I would say definitely, yes.

You know why. :)

It wouldn't be right if I didn't.

I assumed you would be as interesting here as in all the other venues where we have corresponded. I was right.

Very kind of you to say, since I sometimes snarkily refer to LJ as the place where otherwise interesting writers go boring.
