My sweetie has secretly bought me wind-up rubber sushi ! It came via Fed Ex, today. The salmon roe sushi is still my favorite, after all these years since I lost my last set. They still do the charming little Confused Sushi Dance when you let them loose: Dash! Spin! Reverse! Sarah accompanies this with the perplexed terrier dance when you let them loose on the floor. The pity is, they don't stay wound up long enough. Still, I am very pleased with them, and must go out and find a nice sushi plate to display them on. I wonder if this will be sufficiently superfluous technology to make bohemiancoast jealous, or if by now she's got her own set.

PK, while lovely and wonderful, sometimes seems insufficiently frivolous. Now I'm regretting I didn't buy you a sushi candle of comment as well as Alison when last I was in Madison. Wonder, for that matter, if groliffe doesn't need wind-up sushi; that by Ghod is food with play value. Well, for certain rather improbable values of "food".

groliffe, dear girl, believes in food with play value (and indeed play value is a great addition to many other things - such as friends) but is not entirely convinced by something that isn't actually food, thinking that there is some aspect of a point missing somewhere...That said, real sushi dancing around on the plate triggers an ethical objection (although surprisingly not a squick reaction) so this little toy might add something to a room which also contained actual sushi.

Hmm. Steve Davies and I were both given wind-up sushi for Christmas last year or the year before... by Sue, perhaps? I can't believe I don't remember. Anyway, it has pride of place on my wooden-boxes-that-aren't-typecases. (As opposed to my wooden tray that is a typecase, which I must clean up and put on the wall).
