Recent LJ discussions of the death of Andrea Dworkin have left me with quite a bit more to mull and say on my ever-ambivalent relationship to feminism. I'm making notes for a piece that I've tentatively entitled, "Sex, Feminism, and Speaking Ill of the Dead," but I doubt very much that I'll pull it together today, or even tomorrow. But I am continuing to ponder, should anyone take any particular note of my silence.

My relationship to feminism is not at all ambinalent, but my relationship to Dworkin certainly was. I can believe that she gave voice to those who had been silent, but being a slim white chick who likes to have sex with guys does not make me anti-feminist.

If you've not seen it, you should add Susie Bright's eulogy to the list.

She didn't shirk from making her ambivalence plain, and didn't think that sharing it was speaking ill of the dead, but rather addressing the merits and foibles of a real person, not a caricature.

Are you going to publish it yourself or do you need a place to publish such a potentially dangerous thing?
