Cloudland

I came home from San Francisco to find spring. My office is temporarily in the clouds. My windows face the quad, and each of the main walks around it is lined with vast, venerable Yoshino cherry trees. The weekend of Potlatch, the whole ancient mass of them burst into full flower all at once. Now I can't see the buildings across the way for the intervening massed bunches of pale pink blossom. Especially in the fierce sunshine, prospect of blooming trees just outside the windows make it seem as if you're looking out over great, boiling pink cumulous clouds. It's magical. Every person who walks in loses track of their business and has to say something about the view, even now when the blossoms are past their peak and the air if full of pink petal confetti.

The weather has been perfectly glorious. Cloudless, empyrean blue skies and bouts of t-shirt weather at noon time. If there's a better place to be living at the moment, I'm not sure I want to know about it. It might be fatal.

The pub meet at Big Time was good. They had a really nice Belgian-style on tap, and we managed to put together several tables just where they would catch the breeze from the door. Just shy of 20 people attending, with some new faces and a serendipitous out-of-town visit from [livejournal.com profile] kateyule and [livejournal.com profile] davidlevine, in town for a square dance event. The noise level was a little high at times, but livable and I was actually pleased to see that they've pulled out the cd jukebox, because having loud music with those acoustics just isn't conducive to much of anything.

Welcome, spring. Time to get the cat shaved.

It's a classical haiku, but I can't remember the author's name at the moment.

a bit literal:
look at that! and that!
is all I can say
about the flowers of Mt Yoshino

better:
eeeee! Yoshino flowers!

But isn't it one syllable long in the first line?

I seem to recall seeing a lot of cherry trees in bloom when I visited Seattle. There was some sort of walk lined with them near the university?

Dunno about near the University, but on the campus itself there are several, including on the quad where I work and down the diagonal from Red Square (which is neither) to the fountain down by the Sciences.

We're having a way early spring. The stuff I have planted isn't blooming yet, but only because it's on the north side of the building. One of my crocuses is about to start. You've never seen Seattle this sunny and lovely in February and March. Today it's finally gray again, but it may be the first time I've seen it this way in weeks. I need new sunglasses, man.

And Seattle misses you, or at least, I do. BTW there's at least a chance we'll come out for Readercon in July.

Our neighborhood is just LOUSY with trees in bloom. Twelth Ave East is amazing right after you turn the corner from Aloha. My crocus have already come and gone. They hyacinths and grape hyacinths are all in bloom now and I'm eagerly awaiting the tulips.
