So, in a time when important household machinery is breaking around us at an alarming rate, Hal's Mac Mini has gone tits up just out of the blue. Simply will not boot beyond a gray screen, despite considerable efforts. This is the same machine that had the recurring, supposedly impossible snow crash problems and now, after not even four years, it's a paperweight. Not only does it not "just work" it doesn't work at all. Overall assessment: Dell products have given us better service, better reliability, and longer life. At this moment I am not even a little tempted to consider purchasing an Apple product again. Ever. Ptui.

Date: 2012-12-17 08:10 pm (UTC)As for my computers, both at work and at home (mostly Dell products), I assume they'll just stop working at some random point without warning--that's the historical model for me! :-) I have backups galore.
* assuming 'considerable effort' was just self-induced frustration and banging against the table top.

Date: 2012-12-18 07:46 pm (UTC)However... personally I'd never buy another Vauxhall (GM to international readers) after having had bits fall off, engines seize and general lack of reliability and performance while Fords have given me years of reliable driving pleasure. However I have several friends with trusty Vauxhalls that have given them (the bastards!) years of driving pleasure and who would never buy a Ford due to their adverse experiences with that brand.
And I'd never buy a Dell. Although considering another windows lap top.
I offer no comfort or help but for all manufacturers there is somebody who's doomed to get all the duff products.
