Union Station thru Damaged Lens

Well, crapdoodle.

Apparently some time in October I managed to bang the Lumix around hard enough that it chipped the lens. I hadn't been doing much photography in October and so the camera was floating around at the bottom of my book bag with my pens and knitting needles and whatnot, apparently getting knocked around much worse than I would have imagined. The chip's not really fixable. You couldn't grind it out without completely altering the lens focus, and the Lumix has a fixed lens, that is it's built right into the body rather than on a lens mount. I'm sure it would cost more to replace the lens than to replace the whole camera. I can still take pictures, of course, but, like in the shot above, the chip means every image gets a blur in it.

And while it I can sometimes finagle decent images with it, if I am careful about where the blur winds up, still, it is not a happy outcome. Foo.

Sympathies. I hate it when I damage something from carelessness or stupidity or laziness. One of my classics is to think, "Surely I can reach X without taking the time to move Y out of the way. . . oh, damn."

Very sorry your camera is broken. Did it not have a case? I've got an inexpensive foam case for mine since I bung it in my purse all the time (the S95, not the slr).

They are nice pictures!

These are lovely pics! I have a Lumix DMC-LZ7, but Danny overheard me say last Christmas that it was too big to fit in my shirt pockets, so he bought me a very small Canon. Still like the pics the Lumix takes, though, but none has ever been as nicely composed as these shots, in spite of that bit of blur.
