...but have occasionally wished to be. Hideous cold from Hell, begin week 3.

I must presume it is not flu, because I have had my flu shots. Still, I've had this stupid lurgi, complicated by an ear and sinus infection, for a full two weeks even with antibiotics, and my ears are still under water, and I can still fire off a volley of coughing that will frighten small children at 50 yards. Bleargh. Sorry to have been so quiet lately but there isn't much to say about being miserable that hasn't been better said by my cat. Mieu.

We did close on the house refi, so there's that. On the other hand, I missed so much class time being sick, that I felt compelled to drop my Mandarin class. Because of the course sequencing, I won't be able to start up again until next fall. Boo, sucks.

Lesson learned: chairing a Potlatch on a super-duper-short timeline plus work plus 3rd-year Mandarin is not a viable combo. I did suspect the wheels would fall off something.

On the other hand, I did not nearly drown in the sinking of the Bounty, and I'm not facing November nights without power in New York or New Jersey, and next quarter I can always take something easy and low-stress, like maybe Statistics, so I have many things to be grateful for.

Still, it would be nice to be able to hear normally again.

My sympathies. I have completed three weeks of the cold/bronchitis from hell and have plunged into the fourth, after thinking I was well enough to go to OryCon. No antibiotics, because mine's definitely a virus and the ear problem didn't look bacterial to my doctor. I can hear again, so I think she was right.

Best of luck in getting your hearing back and stopping coughing. I want to know why, if I have to cough so much, I can't cough delicately and with a better wardrobe, like Greta Garbo in Camille.

Back when, I was very sincerely hoping I could actually make OryCon this year, especially what with wanting to support Paul & Deb's efforts with the re-invigorated fan lounge, and for that matter to flak Potlatch, but especially once Hal got sick, there was Just No Way. It was really only yesterday that I had enough energy to do even rudimentary chores around the house. Up until this weekend it's been all I could do to keep us and the beasts fed and watered. So, Poot. Viruses, we do not love them.

Oh, how wretched it sounds! I especially emit sympathy for the ear and sinus infection, those are so miserable. But even though I had a different and far less invasive cold I am vastly annoyed that still, four weeks on, I am coughing every day. It is the pits.

Sorry about the Mandarin. I am working through the Rosetta Stone Swedish lessons and passed Disc 1 with a 96% on review alone, i.e., didn't bother with the lessons. Not bad! I think I'll actually do all the work on Disc 2, though.

Yeah, I wasn't actually going to go to the doctor until going back to work too soon sent me into a tailspin. That night I was running a fever of 102 and got the ice-pick stabby pains in my ears every time I rolled over in bed, and somehow that convinced me to go endure the indignities of seeing a doctor without an appointment.

The fan lounge was lovely, though I coughed too much to appreciate it fully. I did converse with a number of people who expressed enthusiasm about coming to Seattle in early February, so a certain amount of flakification took place.
