Deprivation, and Other Parlor Games
Feb. 17th, 2005 03:14 pmOkay, so now I want to turn the "uniqueness meme" on its head. For your delectation and commentary, here's:
Ten Things I Have Not Done, that You Maybe/Probably Have (Unless you didn’t grow up in the US)
1. Gone to kindergarten.
2. Watched broadcast TV at home in the last decade or so.
3. Packed peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch.
4. Had training wheels on my bicycle.
5. Worn braces.
6. Attended a college or professional basketball game.
7. Learned a reasonable command of a musical instrument.
8. Had my tonsils out.
9. Attended any kind of church social.
10. Gone to Sunday School.
Same deal if you wanna play: copy the list, omit the things you have done, and replace them with things you haven't done that you think many or most others have. Or, alternatively, you may look at this as my take on what's "Normal Americana" that I missed out on for one reason or another.

I did go to pre-schools, but for some reason when I was of an age to go to Kindergarten there wasn't one.
I learned to ride a bicycle at a late age, and training wheels were 1: too embarrasing to let anyone see, and 2: pointless, since I could reach the ground with my feet.
Happily for me, I was never required to cover college basketball. I have had, however, to attend tennis, football (high-school), volleyball, running and rodeo for classes/jobs.
I managed to avoid golf.
I was in Catholic school, and an altar boy. I also took advantage of the social aspects of Mass when I was in Basic Training, to avoid having to see my messmates. Four hours without them was wonderful, and so the Episcopal Church may have saved my sanity.
