I'm making chicken soup stock today. Another way of saying I've done fuck-all, since the stock takes care of itself on a low burner. I have this irksome nerve-pinch, muscle tension headache sitting right of my occiput and it's making me want to peel that part of my skull off and apply sandpaper and pliers to whatever isn't sitting right. So far, drugs are not helping. It's not even that it hurts a lot, it's that it hurts in a really distracting way.

The first of my salwar kamiz came yesterday. Shades of goldy rust and maroon, very nice. Now I'm pondering how and where to add pockets to the salwar. But I get to wear the outfit at Corflatch. Yay. (Yes, we've bought, or rather applied mileage toward, the tickets. I'll be at both conventions, Hal will come down for Potlatch. Whee!)

Places I've lived (dates somewhat approximate):

BrĂ¥ten, Karlskoga, Sweden 1962-1965
Hasseludden, Nacka, Sweden 1965-1968
Rochester, NY 1968-69
San Jose, CA 1969-80
Los Angeles, CA 1980-1982
Alhambra, CA 1982-84
Pacoima, CA 1984
Altadena, CA 1984-1988
Pasadena, CA 1988-1993
Irvine, CA 1993-1995
Costa Mesa, CA 1995-2002
Redmond, WA 2002-present

Googling reveals that virtually all hits for "Hasseludden" point to some very exclusive Japanese-style spa and conference center, but when we lived there it was mostly summer houses and a few year-round residents who commuted to Stockholm, like my Dad. I expect I wouldn't recognize the place now.

I didn't know you lived in Rochester. That's where I was born, and it's where I lived directly before moving to San Jose as well. Small world. (I work with another Willow Glen High grad. You might not have known her because she was in my sister's class, which would put her several years older than you. Her name is Kathy Hill.)

No bells on Kathy. I probably wouldn't know anyone who graduated before 1978, though. And fairly few in the class of '78.

Yes, Rochester was the first place we lived in the US. My dad got a job with one of these big military-industrial corporations with -dyne in the name. But since part of the point in moving from Sweden was escaping the icy winters, Rochester did not last. So, since we're comparing notes on places we never met, but might have, did you ever go to Expo in Montreal?

I did the chicken stock thing too, yesterday, then pulled the chicken out and left beans soaking in it in the fridge overnight.

It's been simmering since about one. I'm looking forward to it...

FWIW, this is a very Salwaar-intensive neighborhood, and the ladies seem to lean towards the small flapped bag with a very long cord handle across the chest answer, although a pouch would likely work as well.

Well, I am sadly addicted to pockets, but the small bag on a long cord is an excellent thought to supplement pockets and/or as an interim measure.
