Here's a cool thing I cribbed from [livejournal.com profile] katzenmusik. It's a little U.S. geography self-test, to see how good you are at placing the outlines of U.S. states within the map of the country. My score: 90% perfect placements, average of 23 mile error on mis-placements, in 445 seconds. The bitchy part is that there appears to be a randomizer on what states you get in what order. It's easy to get something like Kansas or Colorado early on, before you have any other state borders to guide you. Have fun, kiddies.

Yeah, getting a few perimeter states first makes it much easier. I tried it a few months ago, and was running something like 96% correct with a average 7 mile error, but when it tossed out the central Plains states first I had problems with dropping them a hundred miles or so out of place. Even getting Nevada right on is tough without one of the Coast states to clue you.

96%, 4 miles error (average), about 225 seconds

Getting Missouri and Nebraska first really hosed things.

But after that it was just pattern matching, at least for me.

84% and 42 miles.

But, given it's not my country I feel ok with that... ;)

Oh, that's really fun.

I managed to get even Idaho correct without any guiding states, by eyeballing what I thought the shape of Washington should be. But damn, I let go of the mouse button and dropped Vermont in the middle of northern Michigan, and that really hosed my score.

The first time, in fact, I got Kansas right off the bat, and that made my score much lower. The second time I got coastal states first, so my score was much better.

84%, since I dropped a couple, using a trackpad slouched in bed. Also I got Arkansas first, and was almost 200 miles off. Otherwise I thought I did quite well.
