Weird Old World

Observation from a friend's journal: today there are no contrails anywhere over the UK. Excepting perhaps 9/11, this is the first time in many decades. Weird, huh? How fragile our modern existence really is.

I remember how quiet it felt after 9/11, while the planes were grounded. I'm sure some of it was psychological, but just not having the occasional sound of a plane overhead made everything feel quieter.

Yeah, but The Continent isn't _completely_ isolated from the UK -- there are still boats & ships/ferries, and the Channel Tunnel/Chunnel open for travel.
