I was mulling this evening, between fits of ill temper on mailing lists, and a prolonged but unhappy bout of dog wrastlin' (Sarah needed both pilling, the application of an Elizabethan cone collar to prevent from her licking at her medicated self. I succeeded at the former, only slightly bruised and broken. Failed miserably at the latter. Sarah is now wearing boys' boxer briefs. Size XS.), about how digby and kos and them other uncapitalized lefty bloggers have in recent months expressed a certainty that House and Senate Democrats need to wake up and smell the fait accompli, Neo-Con-neanderthal-Republican-strong-arm-control-of-the-Congress wise. In particular, they need to learn that attempts to work with Republicans as if quid pro quo politics were still in effect only get them bitch-slapped to the mat when they give up meekly on one thing (say, an Attorney General confirmation) and then grovel back later, pathetically hoping to get a little quid. (Or is it quo?) Doesn't happen. This particular gang of Republicans take their cues from W. and Tom Delay, two men who believe that cooperation is weakness. The Democrats, I said to myself, need to figure out that the status quo ante no longer applies.

What you have here is a status quo uncle. Every time the Democrats say uncle, it just reinforces the status quo: the Republicans think they're cowards and expect an even faster roll over next time.

Well, I'd say just ignore one of those mail list tantrums, it's not worth it. The person in question has shot from the hip at times in the past, and I think may have stresses of their own getting them grouchy.

Re: Attorney General confirmation, see
"I don't know of any precedent for something like this," Kohn said. "A retired group of military officers bands together to virtually oppose a Cabinet nominee? And a non-military one? It is highly unusual, to say the least."

Yep.

Time for me to write a letter to Feinstein.

That, I am afraid to say, is a wasted effort. She is probably the worst representative I have ever had, and that includes Davd Drier.

I only vote for her because I hate her opponent more. *bleah*

We need to make them see what we have is a bunch of bullies in charge.

They will continue to try and paint the party's fortunes as being dependant on not lloking unsuitable to the "swing" voters come the next election cycle.

I'll posting some comments (and a link, or two) on this theme later.

But standing up, to be counting. "kicking in like men," to quote from Glory is what they need to do. Trying to trim sails only makes Goerge, et al, look stronger, because they have made the Dems cave.

Give the Republicans a track record of things they have to take all the credit, and blame for. Don't let them claim they overcame intrangience when they get a decent things done, nor share blame when they take a fall.
