At Least My Roses Smell Fabulous
Jul. 17th, 2007 10:47 amBecause the wireless networking situation at home is driving me batfuck. We have the wireless hub down in Hal's den in the basement, and both laptops seem to see the network just fine, all over the upstairs including in my work room, but my desktop, for some reason, is getting this weedy, haphazard trickle of a connection that drops in and out all the time. It isn't location -- Hal's had the laptop and the desktop side by side and the laptop clocks out at the nice, zoomy download speeds you'd expect from cable while my desktop was wheezing away on half a lung right next to it. It doesn't seem to be the card -- Hal bought a new boosty wireless card, installed that, and got no significant improvement. Maybe even de-provement. Switching locations within the room hasn't seemed to help, either, though we still have a corner we haven't tried.
It is kinda interesting the way re-locating the workstation has made the monitor fade out in a diagonal bar down the middle. Faraday cage? Giant magnets in the walls? I don't get it. Just like the internet. I don't get that, either. At least not at home. Grump.
