Uh oh.

A former cow-orker was just by the office to show off her new hobby -- needle felting little animals. She picked it up from another cow-orker and went mad with it and now she's made these incredibly cool bunnies -- and bodyless bunny trophy heads -- with glowing red glass eyes and lovingly sculpted features, and little flashes of pink in the ears. They are amazing. I wish I had made her stop and let me take a picture.

I was, of course, aware of the existence of needle felting, but none of the exemplars I had seen previously had set off my Must Make That endocrine overload response. But these. Oh, these wry little bunnies, with their vaguely ironic bunny grins and their cutting-edge cartoony bunny builds and the whole idea of having a felted bunny trophy head on the wall. Gah! I am now a giant, crazed and slavering bundle of barely-contained Hobby Lust.

It doesn't help that the store what sells the felting kits and books and rovings is just a short stroll from work and I'm going to have time to kill after work anyway. Must. Resist. Hobbylust. Must. Resist.

Oh you know you want to. Just repeat after me: I am powerless over my hobby lust.......heh.

Oh, I do want to. And I am damn' nearly powerless over my hobbylust. But I also want to not drive my dear beloved crazy, and so I think I'm going to try my best not to give in until I have (1) refinished the new buffet I just bought and (2) made up the living room curtains. I figure if I make it a rule to only buy / acquire one new project if I have finished two existing ones, I might make some progress.

Good luck. I keep trying to do that and end up with one-teo-three-many projects all at once. Although I did pass on a bunch of boxes of stuff on freecycle recently. trying to get a handle on the ever-growing pile.......*sigh*

You should see the felted Christmas goblin I have from Iceland.

I mean, you totally shouldn't see it, because that would make me a bad influence.

No, I should, because inspiration is always a good thing, but I just realized that I can sublimate this lust into the energy of Getting Stuff Done, and so after work, instead of going to the knitting store and buying a felting kit, I will go to the hardware store and buy the correct hinges for my $40 sideboard so that when I get home I can work on the door that hangs cattywompus.

If I finish the buffet and get some curtains made and hung, then I can buy a felting kit. But not before.

Responsibility is a harsh mistress. Or paramour. Or whatever term floats your and Responsibility's mutual boat.

I should see that, too. I gave a friend a marvelous felted bear from Finland, and I have regretted ever since that I didn't get one for me. The idea that I could make one is infinitely alluring.

The camera [livejournal.com profile] timprov is away for over a week, and the goblin is in a box in the basement. Well, two boxes. Sad and sorry.

Hmm. The SS Responsibilities Mutual, perhaps. Short for Trespassers William. No, sorry, we are not Making Sense. Making Sense is three doors down the hall on your left.

But we are the chorus, and we agree, we agree, we agree, that there should be goblin pictures, yes there should. And plot bunnies. And free electricity for everybody. My goodness it's late on a Friday.

The perfect gift for all the writers and aspiring writers you know: plot bunnies!

Watch out for the romance ones, though, they keep trying to infiltrate the other genres...

Thank you.

I have to confess, that I got the idea from seeing someone's lolcat with plot bunnies of doom.

My current vision is of four separate bunnies, each one with a different letter on his or her belly so that together they spell P-L-O-T. Or L-O-P-T, as the case may be...

Do not, then, search for "needle felted" on flickr.

You will surely be tempted by things like this.

Yep, that's the one. I hadn't realized what was possible with needle felging.

Yes, dragons and gargoyles and two-headed, three armed Beeblebears are definitely on my short list of things to be felted.

You should probably make the acquaintance of [livejournal.com profile] bonz_lizard. She makes needle felt dragons, and dinosaurs, and etc.

She does a lot of other cool art/craft stuff, as well.
