Stuck in the Snarkularity

Design- or color-sense are not among the virtues I associate with LASFS, but dear merciful Shiva, please rip my eyeballs out now. I just cruised by the lasfs community journal. That has got to be the single syphilitic-crocodile-butt-ugliest color scheme I have seen in a very long time. And I don't think that's an off-the-peg LJ scheme, which means that someone deliberately designed it that way. Sweet jumping baby Jehosophat.

This is the first time I've looked at that site since the new plastic lenses in my eyes enormously improved my color-perception. Your Critique seems to be spot-on.

I suspect someone got hold of some long ago scientifical research on legibility that was never intended to apply to CRT screens. At least I certainly hope there's some such excuse.

Yes, my fear is that the scheme was chosen based on some form of misguided book larnin' about readable type, taken as gospel without the intermediation of an actually looking at the output.
