The Lawnmower's Been Sick

And it's been too cold and wet to mow anyway. Besides, we are thinking about getting a lawn service. And we've been trying to let the bare patch on the right grow back in. Yeah, that's it. Ahem.

Yes. It's true. We really, really, really need to mow the lawn.

Well, it's okay for you. It doesn't matter to you if it's UnAmerican to fail to mow your lawn. Or does English housepride extend to the garden?

Ours doesn't. The landscape company comes regularly even if all they do is mush down the grass. The management company can't seem to get people who are really competent. The last time they were here, they broke another big piece of wood off my outer ramp.

That is pretty much the pros and cons of condo-living in a nutshell: less direct responsibility for exterior maintenance, with concommitant lack of control of how well or poorly that mainenance is done...

And I think management doesn't see things as close as we do, since they just drive through.

I have permission from the board to put in a concrete outer ramp if I pay for it, but I have a neighbor who is really pushing me to put it in so it meets ADA requirements which means elevating the stoop to our threshold level and then a longer ramp (all the way to the center sidewalk) that would require handrails. I'd really like that (and my upstairs neighbor approves), but I'm afraid that if I ask for that, the board will rescind the permission for just the outer concrete ramp. Technically, the state of Virginia is on my side, but management is very good at making the board refuse things that are legal and then using insurance when they lose the suit.

Long grass looks pretty and inviting to me. I'd like to be sitting in the shade of that lovely tree.

Truthfully, we rather like the wild unkempt look, too, but the back neighbors have begun dropping hints, so I'm afraid there's nothing for it but to trim it down. It's a pity because I hate to cut down the forget-me-nots and volunteer sweetpeas that are in among the grass.
