I'll be done with my damn' antibiotics today, calloo, callay! Just as well, since I've been fumbling my dosage schedule the last couple of days. I can only hope that my elder years do not hold quite so intensive a dosage regimen, since I am clearly not constituted to remember to bring the damn' drugs along all day. If at some point I permanently pick up a four-times-daily drug, I see a self-timed, alarm-enabled, fur-lined pill cozy in my future. I hope they come in colors other than baby blue, baby pink, and beige. The Boomers are way overdue in generating a trend for attractive, hip, brightly colored pharmaceutical caddies. Or maybe I just haven't looked recently. After all, Sue had one heck of an attractive psychedelic-swirl anodized walking cane when we saw her at Orycon.

Still, for now we must make sure all my flora are good and dead, lest drug-resistant killer zombie bacillae arise. So I forge ahead, popping blue pills and thinking of Myst Classic as I do it. "Blue pills! Give me the blue pills!" (Yeah. Yeah. Pills. Pages. Whatever. It's all blue.)

It sure will be nice to have that constant bitter tang out of my mouth some day. And my ears are very close to clear, so that's all right, then.

Well, a pill box with a dragon on it wouldn't be too bad, really. Not that I'm even a little bit Welsh, as far as I know.

Oh, the doctors and I always work it out so I only get once or twice a day meds. I never remember mid-day meds. I'm glad you're done with yours!

I remember three and four times a day meds fine. It's the every other day meds I can't get the hang of. Julie found a nice, purple daily pill minder with an attractively nonfunctional curve to it that did the trick.

My aunt had a number of pill minders squirreled away in drawers that I cleaned out after her passing. The most elaborate one had breakfast, morning, lunch, afternoon, dinner, evening, and bedtime, for each day of the week. Sheesh, you'd fight off senility just remembering how to fill it up correctly.

Oh, it can get worse!
"Try half a pill on Sundays and Wednesdays and a whole pill other days, and we'll see."
"Hmm, your last blood test looks like that's a little too much. Take one pill every other day and half a pill every other day."
"Well, your last blood test shows that's a little too little. Try a half a pill on Sunday and Wednesday and a whole pill every other day."
(Yes, that's going back and forth between 6 pills a week and 5 1/4 pills a week.)

I have two meds that I take on alternate days. I take a lot of meds so this may not work as well for you, but when I go down the row of morning bottles and these two are right-side-up, I take one (or half, for the other) and then turn the bottle upside down. When I come through and they're upside down, I just turn them right-side-up and don't take any.

As to pill minders, I really prefer to check the bottles as I take the meds. The bottles are mostly alike and I currently have eleven of them plus two inhalers and although I'm pretty good at identifying individual pills, I like thinking the name of the pill and then seeing it as I take it.

The trick with turning the bottle upside down on off days is clever and I hope to remember it if ever I need it.

Thanks! The rheumatologist was impressed when I told her, too (one of the alternate day meds is colchicine -- the pain med for gout that nobody knows why or how it works), and she said she would tell her other patients with alternate day meds.

fur-lined pill cozy
Oh, no! No, no, No!
I do not want to think about picking the various pills out of the fur.
Fur on the outside if you like. I have no problem with that. But not on the inside!!

Heh. Yes, the whole point of Goonery is often to give us all a virtual finger poke in our mind's eye. Which is to say, I blame the fur-lined bit on some episode or other of The Goon Show. Not unlike Firesign Theater, I owe everything to Spike Miligoon and the gang.
