I didn't plan it that way, and didn't fully notice until after we had already done it, but we signed our purchase documents on the Solstice. Seems auspicious, somehow. The house shall have a name -- houses should have place names of their own -- and perhaps something about the sun or the summer solstice ought to be in it. Must ponder.

My current thumbtwiddle for planning the house is a quest for fabric. I've decided the living room curtains should be a retro-40s-ish floral/tropical print. What I really want is something exactly like the print on my favorite camp shirt, but that's not likely, is it? So for now I'm trolling the drapery fabrics on various websites looking for something like this (only with a denser pattern) or this (only with a cooler red to it) or this (only a notch more vibrant, maybe) to tie the room together. Once I have the curtain fabric in hand I can pick paint colors.

I'm entirely mad for this, and this but not for the living room, so I don't know what I'd use it for. Table cloths for a tea room, perhaps. When I get around to opening The Duchess of Kent.

Ooh, I vote for Montego Bay. Will they send you a sample so you can see if it's maybe more vibrant in person?

I have in fact requested several swatches from Denver Fabrics to see what they look like in person. That's one of the ones sent off for, so I can see. I'm finding I also quite like Waverly's "Summer Splendor" (click on the enlarge to get a better sense) in the chocolate base color, I just don't especially want to pay retail prices for Waverly. Thirty-eight bucks a yard, forsooth.

This is the closest I found.

Nice, but a bit too tan/brown/tea-dye for where I want to go with these curtains. Ideally, I'd like the floral to be on an ivory ground, I just haven't found one of those that I like yet.

They seem a bit busy (I know, I know, I wanted a denser print!) but that might only be a function of how much of the print they're showing. The first one's too brown, but that second one has possibilities. Thanks!

Check out reprotdepot.com. They have very cool reproduction fabrics.

They do indeed have very cool reproduction fabrics. That's a great resource to know about. Alas, right now they don't have anything quite like what I want. Neither does Pacific fabric, but *man* they had some luscious Japanese inspired prints in the quilting section.

I know. I have to stay away from fabric stores right now. I have waaaaaaay too many things cut out on the work table needing to be finished.

With the usual caveats about how monitors lie, I think the greens are a bit too clear for what I'm looking for. I'm looking for more olive and less kelly. The red is good, could be even a touch more blue, but that one would be fine, but I'm kinda leaning toward an olive color on the walls with ivory trim, and so I'm looking for a green that would pick up the olive from the wall color. I'm now thinking I may go with something that's just ivory, tan, and olive, and not try to match a red, and then I can just get the red leather couch in whatever red it comes in.
