No one is commenting to me much. Must say something controversial.

The reason may be that LJ is giving a lot of comment errors. I've had most of my attempts to comment today fail at least once.

This post wasn't controversial, so I won't comment.

You could post a description of the current TAFF situation ... though that might result in more response than you really need.

I feel bad for being a crap commenter--time has been horrendously overloaded with slog of late, and so my ten minute runs are too frequently cut to eight or five.

Oh yeah? OH YEAH? And I suppose that's a controversial statement! Like something people would fight over! Grrrr...

Talk about how wonderful and perfect the film "The Prestige" was. You'll get an earful from me.

I liked it. An interesting story, though I understand the book was much better. Either way, "wonderful and perfect" it was not. Many holes.

Actually, I commented on one of your recent entries today as I stood underneath some very tall redwoods near my office. "Hmm," I thought, "I am getting wet. These are not as efficent at keeping out rain as Ulrika's cedars."

Admittedly, unless you were psychic you missed that comment.

It may also be that I've been writing the sort of self-contained posts which don't really inspire a response. I usually know when I've written a comment hook, as us old apahacks used to call them.

Then again, I may be getting rusty because I really didn't expect the volley of replies this garnered...

I feel bad for being a crap commenter

Oh, please. We're all crap commenters in somebody's LJ. I mean, thanks for sayin' an' all, but I was as much commenting on the sort of self-contained things I've been finding to say lately, and acknowledging that if I want people to talk back to me I first have to write things that provide enough grippy places to get a hold of, as I was using my LJ for its [livejournal.com profile] athenais-coined true purpose, as a Place to Say Wah.

LJ is not an obligation, and sometimes your social life has to take a backseat to the rest of your life, eh? I figure people will say something when they have something to say, and it's all good.

I liked it, but not as much as The Illusionist. There were some lovely visuals, like the top hats, and I thought of all people, Bowie turned in a note perfect performance, but neither of the two leads is quite believable in the role of pathological obsessive.

Ah, but it's cool to know about it post facto. One just never knows what stray remark or observation will stick in someone else's head.

I don't think I'd have believed those two pathological obsessives no matter who played them (they're more believable in the book), but Jackman acts very well nonetheless. Bowie I thought a bit stiff next to Serkis.

All true things. Though it only works when there is some interaction, and I feel kinda bad when I think "I should reply here" and don't, or say I will later, but don't have time, and it keeps happening. I do wish the workload would lighten a tad.

I liked Serkis too, although I thought Bowie was fine in a one-note role. ("Bevare! Bevare!", to quote Bela Lugosi.) Anyway, he looked great with that little mustache.

I enjoyed the movie quite a bit as spectacle, although I saw half of the final revelation from three miles away. Not the other half, though.

Yes, you're right that it's interaction that makes the whole gigantic glass harmonica spin, and I, too, feel a certain level of obligation to make comments when they occur to me. I just don't waste a lot of angst on it. (And what would a very small unit of angst be? If an angstrom is a very small unit of length, would a very small unit of angst be a lengthstrom?)

Considering that I received more responses to my shoe post than to many of my other posts, I would say yes.
There's always the "kitty picture" option, too.

I tend to think of them as assnibbles (as opposed to gigantic assgouge) but then I am a Smith, and our brains are the result of, somewhere down the evolutionary tree, to an unlikely encounter between a squid and a cabbage.
