It's Something Season
Aug. 3rd, 2006 09:09 amI think it was Saturday some time that we first noticed that there were clusters of boats on Lake Washington, just sitting there, not going anyplace. At first we thought maybe there was some sort of event that they were waiting for, not unlike all the boats that anchor in advance of opening day, or 4th of July fireworks over on Lake Union and Elliott Bay. But over the course of a week's commutes I've had a chance to notice the preponderance of little bitty boats with outboard motors, and the poles and nets bristling out of virtually all the parked boats. So, they're fishing. I'm not sure what for though. A quick Google reveals that there was a 3-day sockeye season over the weekend, but it's Thursday now so wtf? Seattle's finest were out there patrolling, too, so I presume it's all on the up and up.
Also spotted on the lake: a fishing Great Blue Heron, and miscellaneous baby ducks. No turtles, though. Turtles tend to be out more in the afternoon.
