That's Not Too Many

I'm not sure it's fair to say I finished another story. More like, I hit a semi-plausible stopping point. Only semi-plausible, though -- it's telling that two commentors said it sounded like the preamble to something longer. That is my besetting sin, really. Almost every short story idea turns out to be a novel tricked out in a false beard and Groucho glasses. But, as I said in comments, hey, possibly the world needs another wuxia-heroine/madame/detective-protecting-the-friendless-and-solving-crimes-in-the-streets-of-Victorian-Whitechapel novel. I don't guess the nearest Borders is already overflowing with those. Although both this and this seem pretty intriguing.
