Out-Nixoning Nixon
Oct. 3rd, 2003 11:39 amJohn Dean, yes, that John Dean, the former counsel to the Nixon White House, has some advice for Ambassador Wilson and his wife for how to most effectively fight the political dirty tricks of, and get full-disclosure from, a Nixon-style White House. Dean's experience from the insider perspective is that the most effective tactic would be to file suit in civil court. Apparently when the DNC filed such a suit against Nixon's CRP, it nearly broke Watergate wide-open, even without Deep Throat. Along the way, he accuses the Bush White House of out-Nixoning Nixon, in terms of the filthiness of their dirty tricks. Who would ever have expected John Dean to become such a vocal champion of open government? All part of our ongoing War on Irony.
You can check out Dean's article at Salon (Non-subscribers will need to watch an advert to get a free day-subscription.) Definitely a must-read for those following the events surrounding the outing of Mrs. Wilson.

Dean and open Gov't
Date: 2003-10-08 08:57 pm (UTC)Mr. Dean has been gaining my respect for a few years now. One might say that, having been part of an administration which was so secretive he can see, better than most, the perils, pitfalls and horrors it can cause.
Certainly when he speaks to such a topic it carries a greater weight than when you or I rail against it.
