There's this fluff blowing through Redmond. It comes unpredictably, when the wind is right. Suddenly the air will be full of constellations, tendrils, swirling galaxies of fluff, touching everything, drifting everywhere -- little spangles of it blow in through your open car window, and out again. It seems vaguely metaphorical, even surreal. There's some sort of metaphysical significance to it, but I can't suss what. I feel as if I'm living inside Fellini's Amarcord. Mostly I just like the way the little motes catch the sunlight when I'm walking the dog, though.

They must have left the windows open over at the Microsoft press office.

Now you know why it's called cottonwood. One year in grade school, I found some pods on the ground at recess and put them in my desk. On Monday, when I opened my desk, f*l*u*f*f wafted out in small clouds. Very cool.

reminds me of my first spring at my current address. There was a fine dusting of yellow powder everywhere which totally mystified me till I realised it was pollen from the hundreds of wattle bushes that flower in this city. Apparently none of my previous addresses have been downwind of a major concentration.

My first reaction was life in a Fellini film can't possibly be a good thing, but I suppose mileage varies.

Oh, I'm back.

It may be worth noting that I have a much higher tolerance for ambiguity, surrealism, and downright phildickianism than you have. I'm not sure life in a Fellini film would be good, precisely, but it would certainly be interesting.

Welcome back. We missed you.
