So, the other day I read an entry in
replyhazy's journal, complaining about not having even seen a Wisconsin quarter yet, and wanting one for her set. When I emptied out my pocket change that night, I happened to remember, and decided to take a look through our laundry quarters to see if we happened to have one for her.
libertango stuck his head into the kitchen and asked if I were checking for Wisconsin quarters. "Yep." "Find any?" "Nope." I didn't think too much more about it, figuring Hal had Tracy on his "friends" list too.
The next evening I was over at Andy's house and dropped a quarter on the floor while fetching something else out of my pockets. "Quick," he said. "You'd better check if it's a Wisconsin quarter." "I checked all mine last night," I explained absently, retrieving the quarter. "My, you do lead a full life." I didn't think about this too much, other than to wonder what's so very sad about the caprice to do a small favor for a friend. If I thought about it at all, it was to register surprise that Andy was following LJ.
At home later that evening I had some reason to mention Andy's remark to Hal. "See, everybody listens to NPR." Um, what? "There was a long piece on how there are mis-strikes on the Wisconsin quarters, from both mints but not all coins. One just sold on eBay for $300."
Well, snerg. I am retroactively miffed to find that people were assuming that I went through my quarters out of avarice.

I hate it when reality intrudes into my tiny fantasy world. :-)
