If I had a Twitter account I might actually have Tweeted my eventual summary observation on HRH Beatrice of York's startling hat at the royal wedding: This is just what life will be like once the gay ecru elder gods eat our heads. It seems Kent has a new tavern. Serving fresh local beers. I may have to stroll over on my walk home from the train to check it out.

Had no camera handy, but I spotted the season's first clutch of baby ducks on Mill Creek last night. They hid under the long grass cascading from the bank and were generally very adorable. Who doesn't love baby ducks?

The trees have leaves. I guess we're finally getting spring for earnest. About frogging time. The world smells of flowers.

That hat was the ugliest thing ever. It even beat out the terrible hats at Lady Diana Spencer's wedding, when she became Princess of Wales. And I thought those eighties clothes and hair even at the time stunningly awful.

Yes, dreadful hat. I thought she looked like a pink mountain goat, and I couldn't help but wonder what went through the mind of Philip Treacy, her milliner, when he and Bea had their consultation and settled on a design together. He is a noted milliner of impeccable taste - he designed the Duchess of Cornwall's hat for the day - and it blows my mind that he would deliberately create something so hideous. Treacy usually leaves that up to the edgier milliners while he busies himself making afternoon hats for the Queen. Perhaps he got a bit bored with all that.
