Today I'm getting on with various small bits and bobs that have been pending around the house. As you see, I finally uploaded the keen "teaparties" icon that [livejournal.com profile] athenais made for me.

After my most recent triumphant eBay purchase I finally got all the Astoria bone china out of its original boxes and onto a shelf in the cupboard so I can actually use it. I feel like a dragon gloating over its hoard, having enough Astoria to support a small dinner party. Now that it's accessible, I suppose I shall have to start inviting people over to endure my cooking. Hmm.

In the process of rearranging the cupboards to make space for the Astoria, I found a creamer and a salad plate and a pair of bread and butter plates that I have no earthly need to keep since they don't match anything and I can't forsee myself hunting up more like them to extend the set. So I puddled around with eBay and finally set up my seller's account. I scanned the backs of the china plates for maker's marks, then dragged out the black velvet drape and improvised a backdrop for product photos just in the corner of my computer hutch. I was quite pleased with myself for coming up with the translucent top to one of our storage bins for use as a diffuser scrim on the light, and even more pleased to find that I could use the case from my newest Wenger knife as an impromptu plate stand for the photos. With a fold of the velvet tucked under the lip of the plate, it looks quite chic. The macro focus is completely dicked up on the Kodak, though, so I don't yet know how clear the images came out, but they seemed okay in the digital preview. We shall see.

I gave myself one of my childhood-comfort treats - baguette with butter, and hot chocolate for dipping - and now I should carry on with all the pile of mending that's lying around the house like a guilty conscience. Still and all, progress.

Go you.

If the focus is all dicked up, see if you can find the manual. It ought to specify the actual distance the macro limits are.

But the whole photo-box sounds way cool.

I need to make one for the orchids.
