Join the Boxer Rebellion
Jan. 5th, 2005 12:49 pmI'm passing this along from
wild_irises for those who may not have read this post. To my vast and mighty readership in California (and you weak and slender ones as well), I give you greetings. There is a small but important piece of activism that you can help with Right Now. Please get on the horn and give a call to Barbara Boxer. According to Skippy she's indicated willingness to serve as the necessary senator to stand up with Representative John Conyers and to initiate an investigation into the 2004 election results. That is, she's willing if she gets enough feedback. Let's give the woman some encouragement, eh, gang? This matters because even though it won't overturn this year's results, if there is sufficient evidence of either fraud or systemic failures that disenfranchise voters it will serve as documentary evidence to get the damn' process cleaned up for 2006, 2008, and beyond. One person, one vote, and every vote counted. If it's good enough for South Africa and Ukraine, it's good enough for us.
Heck, even if you're not from California, give the Boxer offices a call. There's nothing like bowling them over with enthusiasm. Just ask my dog.
For a list of contact info for Boxer, just click through either the Boxer or the Skippy links. Happy activism, campers. Act now, act without thinking, and all that jazz.

Date: 2005-01-05 09:15 pm (UTC)I sent an e-mail. I prefer it to phoning, though I may do that as well, because it lets me give arguments and reasons, as well as just a thumbs up/down.

Date: 2005-01-06 02:28 pm (UTC)I've written to other senators or reps that I think have good ideas even if they aren't "mine" and have heard back from them thanking me for cheering them on. And I'm also going to contact my senators to have them look into this and possibly get them co-opted to work with Boxer. You never know.
As for calling, I highly recommend it. Every time, and I mean every, I've called my rep (MA or when I lived in WA) and they're actually IN their DC office, they've gotten on the phone and talked to me for a little bit. It's cool. I'm lucky.
