The same old pub meet in a new decade. Queue arguments about whether this is a new decade or not, but whatever your opinion on that, the Seattle Tun ("Fans with Beers") pub meet is still on, as usual.

This is an open pubmeet for Seattle Area SF/F fans, their friends, groupies, and fannish visitors, who like to socialize, talk, argue, gossip, and drink beer with like-minded fen. If you expect to be in Seattle and would enjoy a bit of beer-lubricated conversation on a wide range of topics, only one of which is SF, please feel free to join in. You can usually spot us by our Sensitive Fannish Faces.

Where: The Pub @ Third Place, Ravenna
6504 20th Ave. NE, Seattle, WA 98115
Pub: (206) 523-0217
When: Sunday, January 10, 2010
4:30 pm - 6:30 pm or later

And just think, in October the pub meet will be on 10/10/10.

Oh, every year is a new decade, just like every day is a new year. You just have to have perspective on your measuring spots.

I haven't been able to have my Sensitive Fannish Face at the pub meet for months now, but I hope to make it to this one.

How many years has it been now? Thanks for starting it and keeping it running.

This Sunday is the beginning of the Rest of Your Life kind of thing? Sure, why not?

Anyway, it would be fabulous to see your Sensitive Fannish Face at the pub; we don't see enough of it.

You know, I was just thinking about this as I composed the announcement. I don't actually remember when we first started it up. I think maybe it's been as many as five or six years, if you can believe that. I may go truffling around in the old archived Vanguard list posts to see if I can figure out the precise date. It would be nice to know when/if the pubmeet hits its first decade, for instance.

Well, sometimes the Net of All Lies is Useful. It seems that the first Seattle pub meet of the Second Sunday variety was on Sunday, October 10, 2004, at the Elysian. So on 10/10/10 it will be 6 years. If you don't count the somewhat more haphazard and experimental pub meet attempts that started in 2003 (which I'm pretty sure was when we experimented with meeting at Big Time and Tangletown and some other places). I'm not sure when the first meeting in 2003 was, but we hadn't settled on Sunday afternoons yet. I think I originally tried to get something going on a weekday night, but simply couldn't find any place that was quiet enough. Either way, we've been going for half a decade so far, at least.

It's a good thing you looked this up now. The way time flies these days it could have been thirteen years before we thought to wonder! Six years already? Sheesh.
