I've had to take [livejournal.com profile] whatwasthatbook off my reading list. Seems its one of the featured communities on the LJ home page, and is suddenly flooded with newbie posts. It's like the advent of AOL hitting usenet, only moreso. I'm seeing 5-10 posts for from them for every one of my regular friends' posts. I cannot take the volume. Pity, because I like following it, but right now the volume is insane.

Ah. They are asking for help with books going all the way back to their childhood in...1997.

I was forced to do the same thing with the Yahoo group In The Bar. The volume was mounting and it was increasingly composed of short responses to earlier postings quoted in full.

I'm not sure if I should thank you or not. I just spent several hours reading my way through the last 300 or so messages there. Made a few definite IDs, and suggested a few more that I couldn't be sure of from the description.

And I just joined the community. I'll see if it overwhelms me.

And now I really need to get some sleep.

Well, you're welcome, in any event. I guess I'm glad a bunch of people discovered the amazing utility of being able to ask, but I'm still waiting for the traffic to die down before I pick it up again.
