Bloggy Goodness
Jan. 19th, 2005 11:43 amI found a new blog, today. I had just swung by the reliably sharp and funny fafblog since I hadn't been by in a while, and as I sometimes do with blogs I like, I went poking around in the blogroll for unfamiliar names. There, nicely bracketed by the fondly familiar faces of Gary Farber and Patrick Nielsen Hayden, I found Apostropher, who promptly pointed me to all sorts of stuff I should read but hadn't yet. Like Tim Dunlop's Cliff Notes on Iraq post, which is a funny but excellent summary in the story so far in lies the administration tells us versus what's real on the ground in Iraq. And Dar Jamail's first person account of the devastation we've wreaked on Iraq; a pretty uncompromising answer to anyone still claiming that Iraq is better off under us than Saddam. That's precisely what I want out of a blogger - finding the stuff I ought to read but haven't found on my own. Also, he's playful with language, witty, and tells interesting stories about Frank Zappa lyrics, which is harder than it looks. And not coincidentally, he alerts me to the fact that Billmon has re-opened the Whisky Bar when I wasn't watching. Not bad for a short morning's walkabout.
