It's all a result of a horrible typographic cock up where the words "mayor and "mascot" got confused on the ballot paper.

More seriously: Ken Livingstone got elected because of his oppositionla stance to the government of the day, many of whose finst lickspittle scumbag parasitic placemen (I'm not bitter about this, you understand)were at pains to denounce him. This time around he was all pally with many of the same fawning pencildicks (well, perhaps just a little bit) and Boris was the wild and crazy maverick who does things his way. It's been neglected, but I don't think London wants a Mayor who's too close to the government of the day.

Come the frighteningly likely David Caemron premiership, Boris may have problems if the government's interetss and London's don't agree... (now THAT'S a comment hook!)
