So, today I finally got my lower two wisdom teeth pulled. (Not my happiest extraction experience, either. Both of the little bastards had to be broken apart to get pulled, and with the right one the surgeon had to finally drill a hole right into the tooth in order to get the third injection of local directly on the nerve before I numbed up enough. Mostly enough.)

And now I'm back at the office. No, I didn't have to come back -- the boss was quite prepared not to see me before tomorrow -- but seriously, it's not that big a deal to be here. I've got a gauze pack in one cheek still, a bit of a pinpoint headache, and I sound like a deaf person when I talk, but there's not much else wrong with me. Leave molly-coddling for another day.

Ow Ow, ow ow. Further, Ow. In case I hadn't made the point.... Ow. Not to be outdone. Ow.

Hope you don't blow up swelling like a chipmunk, that's what happened to me.

Uh. You're insane? Either that or a glutton for punishment!

Ow!

Actually, I think it's just that my pain threshold for dental stuff is atypically high. I mean, I thought about taking the opportunity to get some gift shopping in instead of coming back to work, but I would really have felt like a pathetic slacker if I had just gone home to veg. It's bad enough I'm restricted to liquids for the day.

Well, before they got the nerve properly numbed up, it did sorta suck. That, and truthfully having the surgical cover over my eyes was more claustrophobic than I expected.

They say I may get some swelling over the next 2-3 days, but so far swelling and soreness seem minimal. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

My mom's like that too. She actually has dental work done without any nerve numbers. Ow! (But maybe because she's allergic to them, I can't remember.)

I feel I should get to stay home for the day if I have my eyes dilated at the eye doctor's. Gracious sakes.

That sounds like it was kind of tough.

When I had my wisdom teeth out, all I had to do was walk home carrying a little paper cup with some wet gauze in it. It really wasn't that bad. It was only a mile, the slope uphill wasn't very steep, and the weather was good. Also, it was good that I didn't much pain, because the dentist was a Mormon and he wasn't going to give me anything stronger than tylenol even if I needed it.

Take care!

I *have* had dental work done without anesthetics once, recently, and while it wasn't a big deal, I would have prefered to be offered them. In fact, the fact that he decided to go without was instrumental in my choosing someone else to be my primary.

Yeah, but having your eyes dilated is a lot more of an impairment, too. I *LOVE* that new icon, by the way. Scrumptious!

I was waiting for you to say there was snow on the ground, and it was uphill both ways...

My doc (Dr. Hertz!) prescribed me pain meds at the initial appointment, told me to pick them up in advance, in case I needed them right away. As it turned out, I've been getting by quite contentedly with the occasional ibuprofen, so that's all right. Now I just have to remember to take the big guns back out of my purse before my next border crossing.

The worst was when I had to have a root canal. The endodontist was tops in the field. He was doing a great job, but he kept apologizing for the pain and discomfort that I might have been feeling. Because of all the numbing and all the equipment in my mouth, I couldn't tell him I was fine and he should stop the apologizing because it was driving me mad.

Make sure you rinse as instructed. I got a dry socket after some extractions, and it Was Not Pleasant.

Thanks for the tip. I have been doing the salt water rinse twice a day, plus I use a rinse before I brush my teeth, anyhow. So far, so good.
