Another Pet Food Recalled

Apparently the contaminant chemical melamine is now suspected to be in the rice-protein concentrate used by Natural Balance pet foods in some of its product lines. Various of its venison blend dog foods, both wet and dry, are now under recall. These are all products which use no wheat gluten at all, which is presumably part of why the rice protein is suspected.

Perhaps the next issue will be the contaminant level in wheat, gluten, and rice in grain from China used in human food. This contamination is one of the reasons that there are hauling laws in the USA. On our farm, we cannot reuse certain containers for food, to give a very minor example.

Looks like that's happening. The FDA is working on keeping hogs who were fed the contaminants from entering the human food chain. Some of them may have already gone to slaughter, though.
