In a surprise move, the city of Chicago will become a unicorn, courtesy of Santiago Calatrava. Well, I guess it's not much dorkier than the Trans-America Pyramid. I wonder if it comes with wings and sparklies?

Wow!

I very much like the idea of the horn blowing a fountain of soap bubbles on a regular schedule. Good for attracting tourists and messing up commute traffic.

"People will come to Chicago in 300 or 400 years to see architecture of the 20th and 21st Century."

These archidicks have no shortage of hubris, do they?

Of course he neglected to mention the reasons why they would be doing so: To laugh, and say what were they thinking? Or maybe to watch them get bulldozed by the ice coming down from the north...now that would be something to see.

By the way..

I always suspected that Chicago was a Fabulous Monster at heart, I just thought it was more of a Minotaur.

I'm just happy that, finally, now Christo will have something in Chicago to wrap. Even if it will end up looking like a deranged condom thingy.

They've been blowing smoke about this folly for months. This is at least the third or fourth version.
The proposed/alleged site is in one of the most congested traffic ares in the entire city. That ought to help! And I'll sell you my share of the near-future market for overpriced real estate for a nickel.
Don't believe it until you see the money.

No, because they're tearing it down as fast as they can; and the more execrably cheap and boring the replacement the better.
Check out the book Lost Chicago, and then note that it's old enough that a second volume could be done today.
Da Mare, Jr., wants yuppies, flower planters, and iron fences. Construction is where the graft is (see "Big Bill the Builder" Thompson, last Republican Mayor of Chicago (80years ago)), not maintenance or non-essential services.
