I have to say, I find the unpretentiousness of the Swedish royal family rather dear. I'm having trouble trying to picture Prince Phillip ever being caught dead in front of a camera in fur-lined glam togs and a shaggy Limahl wig, but I think that's more to Queen Sylvia's credit than Prince Phillip's. Still even I was a bit surprised to see the heir to the throne of Sweden dressed as yet another anachronism-clueless Ren Faire wench. [Scroll down.]

Cover your hair and ditch the evening bag, honey. Oh, and get a blouse.

I like Queen Sylvia so much. She and the king came to Gustavus Adolphus when they were in America and I was going there, and unpretentious was exactly it.

One of our relatives works very near the royal residence, and my grandpa asked him if he'd ever seen the king. "No," he said reflectively, "but I did not pursue him."

I've never seen the Swedish royals in person, so my perceptions are necessarily filtered through the press, but Sylvia has always struck me as cheerfully, graciously game for anything. A trouper. And of course I am eternally charmed by the King & Queen having made their eldest heir to the throne, irrespective of sex, and without making it a thing.

Given that I can't read the Swedish, I was able to look at the photos without wincing only by pretending that they were all taken at masquerade balls :->

Well, you know, you've got to do something to cheer yourself up after those long Scandanavian winters.

Like Smofbabe, I don't speak/read Swedish, but the royal family look like folks who know how to enjoy themselves. Unlike Prince Charles, I bet they know where to put their hands. Thanks for the link and pictures.

Oh oh, and they were at Gripsholms slott! Obviously I must go there for certain. Perhaps not wearing faux-medieval togs, though.

well, that's better than one of Prince Charles' son who decided that for a fancy dress party he should dress as a Nazi (oy vey!)

Yep, the Crown Princess is the one on the left. Yes, she does look like she eats a human amount of food. She also looks startlingly young for somebody who's about to turn 30.
