I've only played the once, and did okay. It was fun, but I have obviously been insufficiently motivated to play again.

Yes, a lot of baking. A lot. But what fun. Except for the trading of sheep, wood and the like.....

This has now made me remember that I should bring my travel size settlers of catan game with me on my ski trip.
