New Perspectives

Pillar Obscured

One of the bonus features of taking Mandarin is that it forces me to amble about on parts of campus I wouldn't normally go to, and find new corners I hadn't previously seen.

I'm also given a new angle on the tribulations of student life. Like today, when I tried to pay my fees online, and kept getting an error message every time I attempted credit card payment. I figured the whole system was down, and so I sent an e-mail to the payment office. Nope. It's not the system. It's me. I have an apostrophe in my name. So I can't pay by credit card. Unless I contact the Registration Office and have the apostrophe surgically removed from my name. Otherwise, it's pay by check or nothing, babe.

Suddenly I feel like I'm in 19th Century Manhattan. It's oppression of the Irish all over again.
